I am pleased to introduce my self as an active ham radio operator from New Delhi. My fascination with radio started when I was little over 14years. Like many of us, I also became a ham radio operator through Short-Wave Listening route. I got my ham radio license some time in 1970 or 71, I do not exactly remember. I started coming on the air with a home made 3 band/ 5 tubes/100 watts CW transmitter, VFO controlled. With this transmitter, I had an old "National-HRO" receiver. I used this combination for few years and later I converted this CW transmitter into an AM transmitter by adding plate-modulation. This AM mode worked very well and had many enjoyable QSOs with local as well as DX stations. Later I converted this AM transmitter into SSB transmitter, and also by this time I had modified my HRO receiver using new miniature radio valves. After having used this SSB transmitter+modified HRO receiver for many years, I managed to buy my first commercial ham gear kit, this was "Heathkits" famous HW101. It was real fun and I enjoyed very much assembling this kit and also operating it on the air. In between, I kept doing experiments with antennas and electronic circuits. At one time I was very active on digital modes like amtor, pactor, packet radio using PK232MBX radio modem. I started operating on RTTY as well with an old RTTY machine called model 15. This was around in 1980, if I remember correctly. Had made a terminal unit(TU) with few radio vales and two transistor AFSK. I really enjoyed working many dx stations with this old and simple RTTY setup.
I operate mostly on 20m band, on CW and SSB, more on CW in fact. I am also active on 40m and 80m bands. On lower bands,
I work on CW mode most of the times. On 40m, my favorite spot is near 7.012, because I have found that there is very little
or no BC QRM near this freq. On upper HF bands, like 20,15,10m. I have home made 2 ele. Quad. On 40m, I use a dipole, and for 80m, I often work with a long wire antenna with an auto tuner. I some time use my home made linear amplifier which I made by using 2x 4-400A tubes. I am an avid experimenter and love to play around with electronic circuits. I recently home made two 20m SSB/CW/30watts radios, these radios are working well.
