    • QRP is waste of time. I prefer arm-chair communication if conds permit.

Steve Floyd (W4YHD): Facility in Alaska covers DC to Light, focus on HF 2.6MHz to 10MHz with 180 Cross Broadband Dipole Array, each 10kW TX and 5GW ERP. Low Frequency Modulation can stimulate ionospheric effects down to extremly low frequencies for research.

        • August 2025: We will hopefully soon publish (submitted to major EMC Symposium EU):

"TEMPEST (UHF RX Spurs) remotely trigger wireless HF-IEMI Attack on a tuned commercial HF-Receiver"

Abstract: A bizarre and complex, malicious shortwave (HF) - Jamming (DQRM, IEMI) attack scenario got TEMPEST/COMSEC/EMSEC analyzed. Our 4 selected commercial Amateur Radio Transceivers (TRX) are all EU CE-RED compliant. These high-class models are 3x K3S Elecraft USA, 1x FTDX101MP YAESU, Japan. Conducted Receiver (RX) Antenna Port-Emissions (ETSI limit -57dBm, 50Ohm) were measured from 150kHz to 1GHz. The actual, most relevant, internally generated HF-VFO/Synthesizer UHF/VHF and HF Spurious RX Ant. Port Emissions (weak signals) are identified in frequency groups and amplitude. A clear correlation of HF-VFO (HF-communication channel) frequency setting and following tracking UHF Spurs, a potential info leakage, is demonstrated. UHF/VHF/HF Signal propagation with path loss estimation, in the nearby HB9CVQ author’s radio installation environment, was experimentally/theoretically checked. The unknown, temporary HF-Jammer location was estimated to be between 50 to 300m, in roughly northern direction. In a commercial/military scenario, however, VFO-setting, by recovery from information leakage, could have much more critical consequences

There are direct implications of this, aside from Military/ Special-Forces/ Government, in mobile HAM RADIO and NGOs.
