Bore da! and many thanks for looking me up on QRZ. My ham radio interests include 10m/VHF/UHF as well as rag-chewing on 60/80/160m plus some low band DXing during the winter months.
I enjoy 'making stuff' (especially antennas) and chatting on the wireless "about stuff'' = GW0-I-Really-Waffle!
My Welsh QTH is located near the bottom of a valley close to the River Teifi. It's really very poor for VHF communication, but the RF ground here is VERY GOOD so on the lower HF bands it makes woking some DX that 'little bit' easier :O)
You can find details of my QTH Lampeter / Llanbedr Pont Steffan and a summary of my equipment on my website GW0IRW.net.
Portable: When in Wales I'm normally active during the UKAC on Tuesday evenings - 6m, 4m, 2m, 70cm & 23cm - either from my home QTH, "Long Wood" just at the top of the hill behind me (both in IO72XD) or from a Forestry Commission site near Aberaeon at about 1000ft ASL (IO72WF) which has a pretty good take-off in all directions.
Contesting: I'm an active member of GW2OP Pembrokeshire Contest Group Open Section Winners of the RSGB Centenary VHF National Field Day 2013.
"The winner this year is Pembrokeshire CG, with 3930 normalised points. This is only 70 short of the 4000 maximum attainable and is a splendid achievement. They rise from 2nd position last year.
The CC [Contest Committee] believes that this is the first time in over 40 years that the winner has been located in Wales. 3930 is also the highest score ever achieved by a station located in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands."
