Although I am a resident in Spain since 1991, I am originally from Scotland.

First licenced in 1988 as GM7CXM (B Class)
Upgraded to A class in 1990 as GM0OBX
Operated during 1991 and 1992 as EA5/GM0OBX
First licenced in Spain in 1992 as EA5GQI
2 x 2 call EA5ON granted in 1994.
GM0OBX lapsed in 1995, GM7CXM recovered as A class call in 2004
GM7CXM/C6A on various occasions between 2004 and 2006

I enjoy several different aspects of the hobby.

First of all I am a keen mobiler. This started off in 2000 as a result of limited time availability at home. My first basic station, using a TS140S and helical whips, has undergone many changes since then. The current setup uses an Icom IC7000 and an Ameritron ALS-500M amplifier. The antenna system is based on interconnecting 3/8” masts, whips, coils, and capacity hats, and can be configured to suit almost any need from 80 – 10m. I usually use full size quarter wave antennas on 20-10 while parked. I also have several fishing rods and spiderpoles for semi-portable operations, usually used in conjunction with an SGC-237 automatic tuner. I am fortunate that I work in the port of Valencia and quickly discovered that salt water and vertical antennas is a great combination, my current entity total from the mobile is 305.

Although not so active, I also have a station at my city centre flat which consists of an Icom IC765, Tremendus 2, and an Optibeam OB6-3M.

I also have a station at my villa in La Eliana. This villa is available for rental and details can be had at: http://www.homelidays.com/la-eliana/house-villa180929en1.htm If interested, please contact me for further details.

I also enjoy contesting. Currently my contesting activity is centred around the Torrent Contest Club (http://ea5kv.ure.es) but over the last few years I have done contests in many shapes and forms, either as SOSB, mobile, portable, or part of the teams at EA5DF, EA5DFV, and EA5HQ. I was fortunate enough to be part of the national HQ team in the 2006 IARU contest, and phone coordinator of the Spanish team for the 2007 event.

Portable activities also form a part of my operations. After trying many different combinations, I currently use MFJ monoband rigs with 4500mAh batteries and end fed wires, which I find to give the best balance between weight, size, current draw, efficiency, and setup time.
