Hello, everyone.
Have you managed to make contact with Franz Josef Land?
I hear there are some die-hard operators out there who have already bagged every single slot—FT8 on the 12–20m bands and CW on the 40–10m bands.
Our family is giving it our best shot, too, but we still haven't made contact on the 40m or 10m bands; it seems the timing just isn't working out for us.
Last night, I was aiming for a "New Band" contact with RI1FJL, but it didn't work out.
But then...
For some reason, there was an incredibly strong signal on 17m FT8.
Even with my modest setup (a humble long-wire antenna),
I was seeing a +26 signal report!
It was the kind of signal strength you rarely even see from domestic JA stations.
It turned out to be P29YY (Papua New Guinea)!!
.....
Yes yes We had got him.

Driven by his one-of-a-kind solo spirit and dealing with severe baggage limits, he overcame every challenge. Through his clever and original station design (his specific antenna choice and setup), he is finally on the air from a lonely island in the South Sea! The secret to his powerful signal is entirely revealed in this blog.
His sheer execution—setting up in record time right after arrival and achieving these results—deserves the highest respectice.
Be sure to read his blog and catch him on the air.
You’ll definitely want to support him as he fights the good fight on that remote Pacific island.
