Hello everyone,

The lingering summer heat remains severe here in Japan.

Lately, the airwaves have been buzzing with excitement over RI1FJL from Franz Josef Land. With the widespread use of FT8 nowadays, one might think that making a contact would be less difficult than in the past. However, for those of us here in Japan (JA), it has proven to be a much tougher battle than expected—leaving some of us wondering, "Didn't we used to work them much more easily before?"

My family and I could only join the chase on Sundays and during the night. While we managed to secure contacts on 17m (FT8/CW) and 15m (FT8) relatively smoothly, we hit a wall on 30m and 12m FT8, struggling to get any results. We also faced a fierce struggle even on 20m CW, a band where we used to make contacts effortlessly.

Fortunately, breaking through on 20m CW last night turned our luck around, and we successfully worked them on 12m and 30m FT8 unexpectedly fast right after.

The pile-up seems much massive than it appears from our side in Japan. It is wonderful to see so many joyful spots lighting up the DX Cluster!

現在の日本はまだ残暑が厳しい気候が続いています。

さて、最近の電離層（コンディション）を賑わせているフランツジョセフランドの「RI1FJL」の話題で持ちきりです。以前に比べると、現在はFT8があるため交信の難易度は下がったようにも思われましたが、私たち日本（JA）からすると、思った以上に苦戦を強いられています。「昔はもっと楽に交信できた記憶があるのだが……」と思われる方もいるかもしれません。私たち家族も、実質的に日曜日の夜間からの参戦となりました。17mのFT8・CW、15mのFT8までは順調だったものの、30mと12mのFT8でつまずき、なかなか結果を残せない状態が続いていました。また、以前なら簡単に交信できたはずの20m CWでもかなりの苦戦を強いられました。しかし昨晩、20m CWでの交信をきっかけに、12mと30mのFT8でもあっけなく交信に成功しました。日本から見る以上に、現地は巨大なパイルアップになっているようですね。DXクラスター上には、交信を達成した局からの喜びのSPOT（レポート）が多数見られます。
