W1ØØAW will be active throughout 2014 from the ARRL HQ station to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the American Radio Relay League. Please remember that operators of all skill levels will operate the HQ station during 2014, so have some patience if things aren't going as well as we would like. We will try to make at least 100,000 contacts in 2014 -- sounds like a good number, and everyone will have a chance to make the QSO(s) they desire. We are, however, not on for general contacts during times when the station is transmitting CW practice or bulletins. The W1AW operating schedule has this information about times when we are not able to hold general operations.
QSOs with W1ØØAW are worth 100 points for the Centennial Points Challenge in the Centennial QSO Party.
QSLs: Of course we will have a nice QSL card available, but they will not be ready for a little while. It is best to wait to send for a card because you may work the station on many bands and modes and you can include all of them in one request. We will also have an online QSL request form for US stations so that they can request to receive card(s) from W1AW portable operations, and W1ØØAW via the bureau. Watch for announcements here and in the Ham Radio media.
W100AW will be used portable at some Regional Centennial Conventions -- the first such operation was from the Orlando (FL) Hamcation, February 13-15 signing W100AW/4. These QSOs are worth 5 points each for the Centennial QSO Party. QSL via HQ.
In addition to the conventional spotting networks, ARRL regularly announces W1ØØAW operations via Facebook and Twitter. Search for ARRL on Facebook and Twitter and "like" or "follow" us, and check the hashtag #ARRL2014 regularly for the latest announcements.
