The Vienna International Centre is the home of several United Nations Organisations,
- The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has three main areas of responsibility: Safety and Security; Science and Technology; and Safeguards and Verification. www.iaea.org;
- The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) holds a special place in the United Nations system as it is the only organization promoting the creation of wealth and tackling poverty alleviation through manufacturing. The Organization focuses on three inter-related thematic priorities: Poverty Reduction through Productive Activities, Trade Capacity-Building, andEnergy and Environment www.unido.org
- The Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO): One of the key pillars of the Non Proliferation Treaty which bans any nuclear-weapon test explosion or any other nuclear explosion anywhere in the world. CTBTO operates the International Monitoring System (IMS) required by the Treaty. The latter, a worldwide network of 321 monitoring stations, uses four different technologies- seismic, radionuclide, hydroacoustic and infrasound- to collect data in order to detect and identify the occurrence of nuclear explosions.www.ctbto.org
- The United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) Established on 1 January 1980 as the third United Nations Headquarters after New York and Geneva (followed by Nairobi).
