TF2JBMoved again to TF3 call area on August 1, 2012
Apply for a new Vanity callsign...

I was first licensed on January 11, 1974 and issued the callsign TF3JB; license No. 80 in Iceland. From January 27, 2007 to July 31, 2012 I was QRV as TF2JB, but on August 1, 2012 I moved back to Reykjavík and am TF3JB again. Privileges include all bands, all emission types and full RF power. I prefer to work CW, but every now and then I will use Phone and (soon) Digital modes. And when there is time, I really like to participate in contests.
I have been a member of our national association, Icelandic Radio Amateurs (Í.R.A.) more or less since 1973. For 40 years I have had the opportunity to participate in various activities of this great hobby and am currently serving as the associations´s president (since May 2009).
I was granted a reciprocal license by the FCC when we lived in the United States in 1990-1995. During that time I attended The Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY) in NYC and The University of New Haven (UNH) in CT. Helga María (my XYL) also earned her academic degrees during that time. We both loved the time in the States.
A QSL card is sure via bureau or direct. If you QSL direct, kindly include a self-addressed envelope with an IRC or 2 USD. I do not use E-QSL’s, but I am considering LoTW down the road. My grid square is HP94bc.
73 de TF3JB.

Two weeks later (on the 4th of July) we happened to work on 6 meters CW.

Photo 4 - TF3JB was appointed an authorized Check Point for CQ Magazine Awards in Iceland on April 16, 2009. In the photograph, Jónas receives the first CQ Award application from Mr. Guðlaugur K. Jónsson, TF8GX, on May 19, 2009. His application was for the Worked All Zones (WAZ) Award. (Notice the vehicle registration plate on Gulli's Honda!).

Photo 5 - The photograph was taken at Þingvellir national Park on October 1, 2010. Þingvellir is a site of historical, cultural and geological importance and is one of the most popular tourist destinantions in Iceland. It is the site of a rift that makes the crest of the Mid-Atlantic ridge. It is also home to Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland.
Parliament or Alþingi was established in Þingvellir in 930 and remained there until 1789. Þingvellir national park was founded in 1930 to protect the remains of the parliament site and was later extended to protect the natural phenomena and surrounding area. Þingvellir National Park was the first national park in Iceland and was decreed "a protected national shrine for all Icelanders, perpetual property of the Icelandic nation under the preservation of parliament, never to be sold or mortaged".

Photo 6 - The photograph was taken on December 17, 2010 to commemorate that 30 years had passed since this group of hams set a TF record in the 1980 CQ WW DX Phone Contest from the club station of the national association, TF3IRA, in the Multi Operator Single Transmitter category. Total score was 2,778,117 points, i.e. 3.642 QSO's, 92 zones and 301 DXCC entities. This record was finally broken by the TF3IRA contest callsign, TF3W, after 32 years, in the 2012 CQ WW DX Phone Contest.
Sigurður, TF3CW, sits with a framed photograph that was taken of the group during the actual contest in 1980 by TF3AC (sk). To the right of the photograph, there is a photocopy of the cover of CQ Magazine's coverage of the actual contest in the 1981 September issue; but the exact same photograph was printed in the contest coverage article in the magazine. After the photo shoot (in the current TF3IRA radio room) the framed photograph was presented to the TF3IRA Station Manager for safe keeping in the association's radio room.
From left: Yngvi Harðarson, TF3Y (ex. TF3YH); Jónas Bjarnason,TF3JB; Sigurður R. Jakobsson, TF3CW; and Óskar Sverrisson, TF3DC.

Photo 7 - The photograph was taken on June 1, 2008 to commemorate that 30 years had passed since the TF6M DXpedition to "Klaustur" (in the eastern part of Iceland). This expedition was a success and quite an undertaking at the time in July 1978. A total of 10.978 QSO's were made with 149 DXCC entities.
From left: Kristinn Andersen, TF3KX; Baldvin Þórarinsson, TF3-033; Sæmundur E. Þorsteinsson, TF3UA; Sigurður R. Jakobsson, TF3CW; Jónas Bjarnason, TF3JB; Gísli G. Ófeigsson, TF3G (ex. TF3US); Matthías Hagvaag, TF3-035; and Yngvi Harðarson, TF3Y (ex. TF3YH).
