THANK YOU FOR VISITING MY QRZ PAGE

I HOPE YOU WILL ENJOY LOOKING AT THE PICTURES

I wrote the RAE City & Guilds examination in 1968, while still in std 8.After receiving my station license, I became the very first Class-B license holder with the call sign ZR5AA. This was a restricted license, permitting operation on the VHF bands only.
Later, upon passing the Morse code examination, I converted to full ZS status and was in fact the youngest licensed ZS at that time.
After that I was extensively active on the VHF and HF bands, and in 1972 set up the largest EME antenna array in South Africa. Subsequently I diverted my interest to tropo-scatter and moon bounce communications and had a great deal of fun on the 2-meter band.
I had 5 antenna towers on my father's property, including a 130 ft Tri-ex design crank-up tower with a TH7DXX beam, and in addition a 6-element 6-meter beam with four 2-meter skeleton slots over it on top of the mast.
I maintained a high level of amateur radio activity throughout the rest of my school days and also while studying Geo-Physics in the University.
Around 1990 I disposed of all my equipment and went off the air for about 14 years, About 11 years ago, I started collecting and restoring old radios. I must admit that I have really enjoyed every minute of reviving those old beauties.
After my university days I chose not to practice Geology, and started a professional career in the radio electronics R & D engineering field.
