History of Hulste

The earliest traces

About the early history of Hulste little is known.
In 800 Charlemagne was to Liederik II bestowed an abbey or who have a hulstbos was that stretched far to Kortrijk.
This forest would become eponymous for the municipality.
The glory of Hulste was the oldest fief of the chapter of Harelbeke. Since 1063 it swung Harel Beeks chapter here the paste.
The Chapter had as supreme overlord this glory to the Lord of Hulste sold, but kept the right to retain the delicious annuities.
The gentleman from Hulste came to die elevations and sales increased. The church was also on his glory.
Other delights where parts of Hulste belonged to were those of Diesveld, Nieuwenhuyze, Dove House, Grey Perre, Schiervelde, Shot Hoecke, Red, Bauwelare and the count's Nail.
In the records of the Kortrijk outside burghers we find that Hulste in 1398, 85 out burghers did. In 1587 an area of 66 acres sown, in 1765, this 484 acres. A simple division shows that compared with 1765 only 14% of sowing land was covered in 1587. This low figure is not surprising, given the crisis that was caused by the turmoil in Kortrijk Kortrijk castellany prevailed, had an impact on the population

Hulste from the 17th century

In 1618 buys William Vander Canal, lord of Schiervelde and Passchendaele, the glory of the Hulste Harelbeekse chapter. The chapter continues to hold a number of rights. Willemv vander Canal inhabited like his descendants and the castle along the Vliet Brook, close to Bavikhove. Archaeological excavations supplemented by archival research shows that the castle was a brick building with a square city wall. At each corner of the wall stood a tower. Besides a castle stood on the foncier of Schiervelde also one Kasteelhof, an important farm that still exists. A straight alliance drove it up to the village. The Kasteelstraat is still a remnant of. The whole must have been impressive: a fortified castle building, farmyard and farm buildings, orchards and gardens surrounded by a moat system of about 300 to 185 meters.
On July 21, 1628 in Hulste a carbine militia founded. The intention was to defend "own haerstede" and the fulfillment of the mandatory services for the prince. The Koninklijke Sint-Pieters Forests Irish Guild still exists today.
In 1688 the Nine Years' War broke out. Hulste is also not spared: war, grain crisis, malnutrition, disease and heavy loads ravage the population. The birth rate in Hulste decreases, while the death rate goes up. In 1690 there are in the village 20 births and 30 deaths. 1694 resulted in a low: only 13 births and 119 deaths. The population of the village, between February 1694 and December 1695 by 39% decline.
Within the rod of Harelbeke Hulste holds with these figures the 9th of 10 for births and deaths for 6th place on 10. In addition there are a hundred Holly Egyptians during this period leave their village. A small village like Hulste was responsible for the maintenance of armed forces: about 4800 infantry and 600 to 700 riders.
During the 18th century the situation has returned to normal. Hulste was - especially flax producing - farming village with homeworkers. That cottage industry must have flourished relatively well since the village in 1739 in terms of number of masters and servants, the 4th place at 16 positions within the rod of Harelbeke. By the end of the 18th century the village has 1897 inhabitants, or 576 more than in 1765. The population is growing back to normal. The family industry, however, offset by the economic crisis of 1845-1850. Again there famine in our region.
Around 1780 the church was completely renovated. That was urgently needed: the tower was crooked and it rained inside. At the end of the eighteenth century, the priest is a "work and school" on.

Hulste in the twentieth century

Meanwhile Hulste no longer the agricultural and flax village of yesteryear. Statistics of the 70 shows that 84% of the active population employed in industry, commerce and construction, and agriculture only on the 6th place is by 6.5% of the employed. These data clearly show that Hulste a typical border town of the district of Kortrijk has become a mainly residential function for commuters.

If you want a quiete fast reply . PSE don't send QSL for differents years of operation in same enveloppe.

NOTE: We ask, at least, 3/4 $ to reply at your QSL request (if you aren't in Europe) because, starting January 1st 2013 the mail costs outside Italy (max. 20g = 3 qsl) are now very more expensive than the past: and because the actual SELL value of 1 US$ is +- 0.73 € but we have to add the exchanges costs (abt another 5-10%) so 1 US$ is abt 0.68€. So probaly 3US$ are not sufficient to cover the costs of any outside Europe letters.

IRC - PSE IF YOU USE IT PSE BE SURE THEY ARE VALID THE ONLY ONE VALID IS IN THE PICTURE BELOW!!!(other - old - IRC are expired in 2013). Italian mail exchange at 0,70€ IRC marked "Italy"; 0,85€ IRC printed in EU; 2,00€ IRC printed in AF/AM/AS and 2,50€ for IRC printed in OC. If you want a reply from (e.g.) USA and you will send 2 "Italian" IRC (2x0,70€=1,40€) we can't reply because they can't cover our mail costs, but if you will use 1 IRC printed in USA or in JA we can! So if you'll use IRC pay attention at this rules!

If you need a paper QSL, as first and best option please get it from my QSL manager, EA5KB.
I do not collect green stamps as somebody suggested in a very nasty comment on DX Summit sometime ago but, believe it or not, the mailing cost for a normal airmail envelope out of my country is over US$ 6.00.
So, if you want a direct QSL please send a SAE (NOT SASE) plusUS$ 5.00 to following address:
Jaime Gomez Rueda - Code 221
PO Box 02-5242
Miami, FL, 33102-5242
USA.
Please NO IRC's. Our post office do not accept them.
Do not send QSLs to Colombian Bureau because I will never get them.
I upload my log monthly to LOTW and eQSL.
Born in Bucaramanga in 1946, Licensed in 1959 as HK7AHM, I became HK3AHM in 1966 and HK3AHM/1 in 1981. I changed my call letters to HK1N in 2007.

We have one daughter, Christine Mari and 3 grandaughters, Jessica Mari (20), Jennifer Mari (15) and Juliana Mari (7).
I operate 99% CW (I was CW operator in Malpelo - HK0TU Dxpedition in 1990 and in Malpelo 2012 - HK0NA) and enjoy equipment repair and rebuild. My rigs include an Icom IC781, IC2KL, AT500, a Collins 51S-1,Collins S Line, KWM-2A and 2 x 30L-1 Linear Amps, plus my first SSB/CW transceiver, a Heathkit HW-100 which I have recently rebuilt.

DON CAMILO HP1AC MR. CAM
A BRIEFIENG OF LUIS O. MATHIEU HPIALX (ENGLISH VERSION)
CAMILO CASTILLO is known to the radio amateur word as CAM, a man dedicated to the radioamateur without concern on his dedicated work to the radio and hard work could affect him.
RADIO CLUB DE PANAMA wants to recognize this radio amateur, not because of his gray hair, but for his years in the radio, with a history in the radio of more than 50 years. This recognition is by dedicating the use of the radio letters HPIA for one year incharged of RADIO CLUB DE PANAMA, and of course by CAMILO CASTILLO HPIAC, that we are sure will enjoy the use of the letters HPIA, given to him by the authorities of the Republic of Panama, exclusively for this purpose.
CAMILO CASTILLO, was born in the Republic of Panama, his father was an employee of the Telegraph of Panama, were he began to hear the first sounds of the telegraphic key, by the year 1949, when CAMILO was only 10 years old. He used his spare time hearing radio with a regular receptor, short wave, specially the 40 meters band. In 1957 he meet a friend in Fernando Jolly, who had the letters HPIFF and who lived by the South Avenue at Plaza Amador in Panama City. Fernando Jolly helped him to understand the electronic world, specially the radio communications and the roots of the radio amateurs.
Later CAMILO entered in full to the telegraphic world and asisted to classes at the Santa Ana neighborhood, where a woman teached him the Morse Code, and with the help of Lloyd O´ Meally, HPILO, CAMILO obtained his first license CLASS "C" on Septermber 1957, and after a year he obtained the radioamateur CLASS "B". Today is Class "A"
CAMILO continue his work for achievements and in 1969 he obtained with the help of other radioamateurs a yard for the first radioamateurs club in the Republic of Panama. Then with the the help of another known radioamateur Clarence Haylette, printed the first MANUAL FOR RADIO AMATEURS BEGINNERS.
CAMILO has a long curriculum of milestones in the radioamateur, such like the construction and positioning in the air of the first Baliza station, (BEACONS), in the Republic of Panama, identified as HPIAC/B in the band of 10 meters, positioned at Cerro Azul, Republic of Panama.
Today we celebrate the 50 years of CAMILO CASTILLO and some more, because the true is that he has 55 years of being an active dedicated radioamateur. Someone can be older, but not an active member as he is, therefore, Radio Club de Panama is proud to have a member (HONORARY MEMBER) as CAMILO CASTILLO, as one of his more outstanding members.
DON CAMILO HP1AC MR. CAM
