French Guiana (FrenchGuyane françaiseFrench pronunciation: [ɡɥijan fʁɑ̃sɛz]; officially justGuyane) is an overseas region of France on the North Atlantic coast of South America. It has borders with two nations: Brazil to the east and south, and Suriname to the west. Its 83,534 km2(32,253 sq mi) have a very low population density of less than 3 /km2 (7.8 /sq mi), with half of its 236,250 people in 2011 living in the metropolitan area of Cayenne, its capital.
The addition of the adjective "French" in English comes from colonial times when five such colonies existed (The Guianas), namely from west to east: Spanish Guiana (now Guayana Region inVenezuela), British Guiana (now Guyana), Dutch Guiana (now Suriname), French Guiana, andPortuguese Guiana (now Amapá, a state in far northern Brazil). French Guiana and the two larger countries to the north and west, Guyana and Suriname, are still often collectively referred to as the Guianas and comprise one large shield landmass.
A large part of the department's economy derives from the presence of the Guiana Space Centre, now the European Space Agency's primary launch site near the equator.

Geography

Forested landscape of Remire-Montjoly.
Though sharing cultural affinities with the French-speaking territories of the Caribbean[clarification needed]French Guiana is often not considered to be part of that geographic region, because the Caribbean Sea is located several hundred kilometres to the west, beyond the arc of the Lesser Antilles. However, the boundaries of what people have defined as the Caribbean have changed over time. Historically, the boundaries of the Caribbean were at their greatest extent during the 17th and 18th centuries and as such French Guiana was situated on the edge and during some periods may have been thought to be part of the Caribbean proper.[citation needed]

Geographic map of French Guiana
French Guiana lies between latitudes  and  N, and longitudes 51° and 53° W. It consists of two main geographical regions: a coastal strip where the majority of the people live, and dense, near-inaccessible rainforest which gradually rises to the modest peaks of the Tumac-Humac mountains along the Brazilian frontier. French Guiana's highest peak is Bellevue de l'Inini in Maripasoula (851 m (2,792 ft)). Other mountains include Mont Machalou (782 m (2,566 ft)), Pic Coudreau (711 m (2,333 ft)) and Mont St Marcel (635 m (2,083 ft)), Mont Favard (200 m (660 ft)) and Montagne du Mahury (156 m (512 ft)).
Several small islands are found off the coast, the three Îles du Salut (Salvation Islands) which includeDevil's Island, and the isolated Îles du Connétable bird sanctuary further along the coast towards Brazil.
The Petit-Saut dam(fr) hydroelectric dam in the north of French Guiana forms an artificial lake and provides hydroelectricity. There are many rivers in French Guiana, including the Waki River.
As of 2007, the Amazonian forest, located in the most remote part of the department, is protected as theGuiana Amazonian Park, one of the nine national parks of France. The territory of the park covers some 33,900 square kilometres (13,090 sq mi) upon the communes of CamopiMaripasoulaPapaïchtonSaint-Élie and Saül.

How to get the QSL :
  • Via the Logbook Of The World (LOTW). It's the best way to get the confirmation : free & fast.
  • Via Eqsl.cc
Logs are uploaded regularly to the Eqsl & Lotw server (daily)

  • Via Direct (fast reply guaranteed)
    • For french stations, Self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE). (ETSA ou un timbre)
    • For the others stations, enclose an S.A.E and at least 1 new IRC or 2 "green stamp" to cover postage
  • Via the Buro

So, if you need a contact with Corsica, pse drop me an email for sked and it will be a pleasure to make a contact with you.
Pse do not request for 6mtrs band, it's forbidden in TK.

Hi, Thanks for looking me up on QRZ. I live in the beautiful Tamar Valley in East Cornwall south west UK. My geographical location is not brilliant for radio but we make the most of it. My interests are primarily H.f. and I am always thinking of better aerials even if i do not get the time to put them all into practice. At present my main passion is 80 and 40 mtrs Dx.
The main antenna is a four square which was a real grind to build but has proven amazing. As we live on a narrow peninsula the winds can be awesome so I went thru fibre glass then carbon fibre however only aluminium elements surive in my location. The rig is a Ts 480 and I use my home built Gs35b linear.
My picture was taken on holiday in France when my son persuaded me to jump off one of the Alps with this French guy and a scruffy parachute, the flight lasted 30 minutes, we all survived ! and enjoyed the experience !
If anybody has a clue to how I can get low angle 20mtr signals through solid Cornish Granite I would be most obliged.
Good luck with amateur radio and keep experimenting
Steve Pridham.
G4BVB

p.s 80mtr Antenna consists of four 66 foot aliminium verticals, 60 buried radials under each and a Comtek phasing box. Each mast has 14 guys which seems to suffice. Front to back is great with appreciable gain.
40mtr is a four square using 20ft centre loaded verticals with on ground radials, hb phasing unit, works great.
20/15/10 mtr is 45 year old Mosley Ta33jr tribander, also great.
If you are interested check out www.4-square.co.uk
Many thanks to QRZ for this fantastic facility.
