Let's TRY!!! THE FOC QSO PARTY

THE FOC QSO PARTY

The next FOC QSO Parties will be held on
22 March 2014
13 September 2014

High Turnout for the FOC QSO Party 14 September.

Plenty of activity and decent conditions on 14 September accounted for a very large turnout in the FOC QSO Party. We received a total of 122 reports from FOC members, and 60 more from non-members. This September date, the second Saturday in September, was relatively free of conflicting CW events. Perhaps that was one reason for so much activity.
The highest score reported was by a very familiar call: N3RS. Sig had 660 total contacts, and of those, 449 were with members. He reported operating a tad over 17 of the possible 24 hours. The second highest worldwide report and the highest from Europe was turned in by Vic, R6AF, with 432 QSOs. Of those, 307 were with members. Curt, N5CW, had the third highest report of 425/267. West Coast US honors claimed by Dick, K4XU with 381/234. A new twist to the event was the remote operation by Allen, N2KW, as DL1A. Allen finished with 340/204 for second highest score from Europe. It was VK2BJ with the top score from Oceania. Barry reported 100/52 QSOs and John, 9V1VV, had the highest report from Asia with 171 QSOs. He reports being inundated with non-members calling him, so only managed 15 Qs with members.
Leading non-members was K0RF with 316 QSOs. G3SJJ had the highest report from Europe with 240. South America high score was reported by PY4ARS with 39 and Asia honors won by JA1GZV with 31.
FUTURE DATES SET: Mark your calendars for 2014 now. THE FOC QP will be held on Saturday, 22 March and 13 September, 2014. Starting in 2015, we have scheduled the FOC QP to be held on the last Saturday of March (opposite of  the CQ SSB WPX contest) and the second Saturday of September (opposite of the WAE SSB contest). By establishing firm dates we hope to avoid conflict with other CW events.
Here is the complete list of reports received

The First Class CW Operators Club, with its roots, history and management in the UK, promotes good CW operating, activity, friendship and socialising via its worldwide membership of 500. The aim of the Club is to foster and encourage a high standard of CW operating ability and behaviour on the amateur radio bands.

The FOC QSO Party is held twice a year and is open to all radio amateurs world-wide. It's not a contest but, rather, an activity day in memory of Bill Windle, G8VG (SK), a past Chairman of FOC who was very keen that we should all be as active as possible on the bands. Stations participating in the BWQP should call "CQBW," in memory of Bill.

I have been active since 1985. Interested in chasing DX on 160 to 6m, mostly on CW plus some contesting. Ex VP8GAV 1990 to 1995 while working for British Antarctic Survey. Also operated as V2/GM0GAV, V26XX, S79GM, S79GT, 7Q7GM, VP8SDX, T2GM.
My current station is 2 x Elecraft K3 plus amplifers. Antennas are Optibeam 12-4 at 28m, F12 XR-5 at 18m, M2 6M5X at 22m, 80m phased verticals and 160m inverted L. For receiving on LF I have 4 x 2 wire beverages covering 8 directions plus a K9AY loop.
I have made it to 275 countries confirmed on 160m, which is similar to my 12 / 10m totals. I am hoping for more sunspots to improve my totals on 12, 10 and 6m. On CW I need CE0X, FT5W, KP1 and P5.
Married to Margaret and we have a young son, Robert. I have worked in telcoms since 1985, currently working on mobile networks with Ericsson for a second time.

First licensed at age 16 in 1960 as KN4ZRX, I've held the calls K4ZRX (1961 to1976), DL4ND (1968 to 1971), N4ND (1976 to 1996) and the current call since November 1996. I'm mainly active on CW on the HF bands and there's nothing I love more than a good modest speed (30-35 WPM) rag chew. I also enjoy CW contesting and get in about every one I hear. With my setup I'm not competitive but I like to try to beat or at least equal my previous year's score. I do own a microphone for my Ten Tec rigs and have actually been know to use it a time or two. I'm a member of ARRL, CVCC, PVRC, and FOC. Current rig is a Ten Tec OMNI VII, Ameritron ALS-600 amplifier and a 53 meter center fed flat top up 17meters. I need to post a current picture!
73, Puck, W4PM
P.S. QSLing: I put all my logs each month on LOTW and e-QSL. If an electronic confirmation is good enough for you please do the same. Direct QSL's for WAS or the US county award require no SASE or green stamp for return postage. I reply100% to such cards and pay my own postage. Please do not send me cards via the ARRL QSL Bureau. Any response from me to such cards may take years. Too many cards - too little time!
