About my QSL Policy:
My first choice and most preffered is online logging. LOTW and eqsl is the best. Lets do away with paper. I upload once a week.
If you want a direct card please use OQRS in Clublog below. Please do notsend your card. In 1 envelope, I can send upto 3 cards.
If you are not comfortable with Clublog, then please use Paypal id sarlaylham@gmail.com to send your 2 $ with an email containing your qso details. Please do not send me your card.
If you still insist on sending your cards direct to my address, it is entirely at your risk. There is a great risk of the $ being stolen, and it weighs very heavily on my head. Please no IRCs.
Please do not send a QSL card for every qso via the bureau. Use Clublog or send me an email at sarlaylham@gmail.com for cards via the bureau.
The above policy means please dont sent me any cards via the bureau.
For the record, I have replied to all the cards direct and via the bureau received by me till 20/4/2013. The above policy will be applied henceforth.

Now a bit about me:
Ham radio for me is a religion. I practice it, dont mess with it and love it!!!Though the seed of desire to pursue ham radio was planted in me in the 1970s( I was in college then), I got my ticket in 1996, when I was a mother of 2 kids! I am now 60 years old, born in 1953. I have a grandson too.
. I was part of the AT2DW, AT0BI, AT0RI and AT0AI, VU7LD island expeditions and hope to do many more.  Operating from Svalbard as JW/VU2SWS and from Morokulien as LG5LG/SJ9WL was thriling
I have an ICOM 746 PRO transceiver and a Kenwood TS 590, a 3 element Steppir yagi and an Ameritron AL80B amplifier in my shack. I love to dx on SSB and sometimes on PSK31 and RTTY. Besides radio, I am a graduate in Economics, love to travel, listen to all kinds of music from classical to hip hop and love to dance. I practice Yoga and meditation every day. I like adventure sport and I have scuba dived in australia, bungee jumped and paraglided in new zealand and sky dived in Texas. I love to learn languages and can speak 4 indian languages and English and German. I beleive in the existence of a superior force, whatever name you give it and try to be a good ham and a good person!!
I have an American call WU2SWS which I use whenever I am in the USA, where my son lives with his family.
Please use my email id sarla.yl@gmail.com to talk about anything else besides qsl cards and all problems with it!!! Have fun on the band and god bless

Antenna note: I am now trying (and liking) a telescopic mast on my Tarheel Screwdriver antenna. The mast telescopes to 12 feet - seems to be better than standard mast for sure! It is MFJ1977. So far I can tell the difference.
QSL NOTE: Much prefer LOTW but otherwise PLEASE SEND QSL DIRECT ONLY WITH SUFFICIENT RETURN POSTAGE. Please include return postage and thanks. No buro and No Eqsl. When you send me the SASE I endeavor to respond the same day received if possible. Outside of the USA is now $1.10 but $1 is FB for QSL. IF I AM TRAVELING - APRIL THROUGH SEPT PROBABLY - WILL RETURN QSLS WHEN POSSIBLE. IF YOU NEED IT FOR SOMETHING CRITICAL EMAIL ME.
I have written an article "RVing and Ham Radio" and QST turned it down for publication so my daughter helped put it in a wed page if you are interested you can see it here: http://n5pht.weebly.com/
HOME QTH in Savoy, Texas is above picture. Rig is Icom 746PRO and usually run 100 watts but have an ALS600 amp for 500 watts as needed. For 10-20 meters I use an 8 element log periodic antenna up at 80 feet and for also use a G5RV up at 70 feet at apex and an 80 meter sloper.
Below is the "shack" when we are on the road: I am 55 feet from end to end and we live in the RV for a few months at time and plan for a few monthsin summer to escape the Texas heat. (see listing of portable operations at the bottom of this page)
We like to travel in our RV and so far I have operated portable from 13 or more States and it has been fun. When on the road I carry several ham stick antennas and a G5RV but rarely use them. I normally use the Tarheel on the truck. I installed a coax switch in the truck that switches the HF antenna to either the rig inside the truck (Yaesu FT857D) or to a coax connector mounted on the side of the truck (near the HF antenna - hard to see in the picture). I then use a remote wireless bobble to control the screwdriver. Move it up and down for max noise and then just a little tweaking and you are at 100 watts output! I also installed a coax through the wall near the shack area in the RV. I used to move the 857D back and forth from the truck to the RV but now carry my ICOM 746 PRO for road trips. Most of my QSOs are CW.

Look toward bottom of this page for a complete list of portable operations in recent couple of years.

Some "old" portable operations: Burns Run West in OK Oct 6-7, 2001. Rattlesnake Island TX035L in March 2002. Operated from Montana, Wyoming and Kansas during May of 2007.
Been a ham since 13 May 1986 and active off and on until about 2000 and very active since then.
Antenna Farm: Cushcraft 8 element Log (ASL2010) at 80 feet on the top of the tower. This covers 20-10 meters. Been very happy with this antenna and it is a downsize from a monster array that gave me lots of worry and trouble - but this little LP seems to handle our wind fine and has been a good performer. I have had it up since March 2007 and have worked 270 DXCC with the Log - mostly on 20 meters but all 5 bands it covers is fine. For 40, 80 and 160 meters I use a G5RV for several years and recently (Dec 2010) moved from 50 feet at apex to 70 feet at apex thanks to friend, Brad, K5AR. With the apex at 70 feet there is a great improvement on 80 meters and a little on 160 noticed as well. It is the 80 meter version of the G5RV but I have DXCC on 160 with it as well.
Primary Station: ICOM 746 PRO and generally run 100 watts. I have an Ameritron ALS-600 solid state 600 watt amp that I use from time to time. Well, I do love chasing DX and here are my awards thus far on the DX chasing:
DXCC Honor Roll- Phone (on CW have 327 confirmed so need few more for honor roll on CW - started later on CW - grin)
(my first 10 years or so on ham radio I had no interest in CW and it is now my favorite mode!!)
5BDXCC - # 5840 (with endorsements on 160, 12,17 and 30 mtrs)
DXCC CW - # 10,150 (worked 328)
DXCC Phone - # 20,125 (worked 339)
DXCC RTTY - # 1,606 (worked 240)
WAZ - SSB #941
WAZ - CW #494
WAZ - RTTY #198
5BWAZ - #1514
LOTW: I continue to upload to LOTW every month or two.

24 Hours of Le Mans

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 24 Hours of Le Mans (French24 Heures du Mans) is the world's oldest active sports car race in endurance racing,[1] held annually since 1923 near the town of Le Mans, France. Commonly known as the Grand Prix of Endurance and Efficiency, race teams have to balance speed against the cars' ability to run for 24 hours without sustaining mechanical damage to the car and manage the cars' consumables, primarily fueltyres and brakingmaterials. The endurance of the drivers is likewise tested as drivers frequently spend stints of over two hours behind the wheel before stopping in the pits and allowing a relief driver to take over the driving duties. Drivers then grab what food and rest they can before returning to drive another stint. Today it is mandated that three drivers share each competing vehicle.
The race is organised by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) and runs on the Circuit de la Sarthe, a circuit containing a mix of closed public roads and specialist motor racing circuit that are meant not only to test a car and driver's ability to be quick, but also to last over a 24-hour period. The competing teams will race in groups called classes for cars of similar specification while at the same time competing for outright placing amongst all of the classes. Originally, the race was held for cars as they were sold to the general public which were then called Sports Cars compared to the specialist racing cars used in Grands Prix. Over time, the competing vehicles evolved away from their publicly available road car roots and today, the race is made of two classes specialised enclosed-bodywork two-seat Prototype sports cars and two classes of Grand Touring cars which bear much closer resemblance to high performance sports cars as sold to the public.[2]
Competing teams have had a wide variety of organisation, ranging from competition departments of road car manufacturers who are eager to prove the supremacy of their products, to professional motor racing teams who represent their commercial backers, some of which are also road car manufacturers attempting to win without the expense of setting up their own teams, to amateur race teams, racing as much to compete in the famous race as to claim victory for their commercial partners.
The race is held near the height of the European summer in June, leading at times to very hot weather conditions for the drivers, particularly in closed roof vehicles whose cabins can heat up to uncomfortably hot temperatures with generally poor ventilation; rain, however, is not uncommon. The race begins in mid-afternoon, racing through the night and following morning before finishing at the same time the race started, the following day.[3] Over the 24-hour period modern competitors will complete race distances well over 5,000 km (3,110 mi). The present record is 5,410 km (3,360 mi), recorded in the 2010 race.[4] It is a distance over six times longer than the Indianapolis 500, or approximately 18 times longer than a Formula One Grand Prix.
The race has over the years inspired imitating races all over the globe, popularising the 24-hour format at places like DaytonaNürburgringSpa-FrancorchampsSebring and Mount Panorama. Presently, the American Le Mans Series and the European based Le Mans Series of multi-event sports car championships have been spun off from 24 Hours of Le Mans regulations. Other races include the Le Mans Classic, a race for historic Le Mans race cars of years past held on the Circuit de la Sarthe, a motorcycle version of the race which is held on the shortened Bugatti version of the same circuit, a kart race (24 Heures Karting) and a truck race (24 Heures Camions).
The race has also spent long periods as a round of the World Sportscar Championship, although Le Mans has always had a stronger reputation than the World Championship, and is presently a round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. The race is also known as a leg of the informal Triple Crown of Motorsport which links Formula OneIndyCars and sports car racing to represent a career achievement for drivers. Additionally, it is seen as a leg of the Triple Crown of endurance racing, which links the three largest sports car races together, with 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Daytona forming the other legs.
