Sudan (Arabicالسودان‎, as-Sūdān Listeni/sˈdæn/ or/sˈdɑːn/;[7]), officially the Republic of the Sudan[8] (Arabic:جمهورية السودان‎, Jumhūrīyat as-Sūdān) and sometimes called North Sudan,[9][10][11] is an Arab state in North Africabordered by Egypt to the north, the Red Sea to the northeast, Eritrea and Ethiopia to the east, South Sudan to the south, the Central African Republic to the southwest, Chad to the west and Libya to the northwest. Internally, the Nile divides the country into eastern and western halves.[12] The population of Sudan is a combination of indigenous inhabitants of the Nile Valley and descendants of migrants from the Arabian PeninsulaArabisationhas made Arab culture the norm and the overwhelming majority of the population today adheres to Islam. As a consequence, Sudan is also often considered to be part of the Middle East.[13]
The people of Sudan have a long history extending from antiquity which is intertwined with the history of Egypt. Sudan suffered seventeen years of civil war during the First Sudanese Civil War (1955–1972) followed by ethnic, religious and economic conflicts between the Muslim Arabs of Northern Sudan and the mostly animist andChristian Nilotes of Southern Sudan.[14][15] This led to the Second Sudanese Civil War in 1983. Because of continuing political and military struggles, Sudan was seized in a bloodless coup d'état by colonel Omar al-Bashirin 1989, who thereafter proclaimed himself President of Sudan.[16] The civil war ended with the signing of aComprehensive Peace Agreement which granted autonomy to what was then the southern region of the country. Following a referendum held in January 2011, South Sudan seceded on 9 July 2011 with the consent of Sudan.[17][18]
A member of the United Nations, Sudan also maintains membership with the African Union, the Arab League, theOrganisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as serving as an observer in theWorld Trade Organization.[8] Its capital is Khartoum, which serves as the political, cultural and commercial centre of the nation. Officially a federal presidential representative democratic republic, the politics of Sudan are widely considered by the international community to take place within an authoritarian system due to the control of the National Congress Party (NCP) of the judiciaryexecutive and legislative branches of government.[19]

Equipment used: K3, IC-2KL/AT-500, 5Band Spiderbeam for 10-20, GP for 30, Dipoles for 40-160.
MixW for RTTY, UCX Log for the rest, running on an old IBM Thinkpad.

For all info, including QSL status and OnLine Log, please visit my Africa website!
A few hints to make our life easier and our hobby more fun:
  • Know what "UP" means!
  • Avoid dupes! I update the online log almost every day, check your QSOs!
  • If a specific country or continent is called, don't call if you are not there!
Further details are on the DX Code of Conduct website, keep those in mind!
73, Peter

Angola, officially the Republic of Angola (PortugueseRepública de Angolapronounced: [ʁɨˈpublikɐ dɨ ɐ̃ˈɡɔla];[5]KikongoKimbunduUmbunduRepubilika ya Ngola), is a country in Southern Africa bordered by Namibia on the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo on the north, and Zambia on the east; its west coast is on the Atlantic Ocean with Luanda as its capital city. The exclave province of Cabinda has borders with the Republic of the Congoand the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The Portuguese were present in some—mostly coastal—points of the territory of what is now Angola, from the 16th to the 19th century, interacting in diverse ways with the peoples that lived there. In the 19th century they slowly and hesitantly began to establish themselves in the interior. Angola as a Portuguese colony encompassing the present territory was not established before the end of the 19th century, and "effective occupation", as required by theBerlin Conference (1884) was achieved only by the 1920s. Independence was achieved in 1975, after a protracted liberation war. After independence, Angola was the scene of an intense civil war from 1975 to 2002. The country has vast mineral and petroleum reserves, and its economy has on average grown at a two-digit pace since the 1990s, especially since the end of the civil war. In spite of this, standards of living remain low for the majority of the population, and life expectancy and infant mortality rates in Angola are among the worst-ranked in the world.[6]Angola is considered to be economically disparate, with the majority of the nation's wealth concentrated in a disproportionately small sector of the population.
