Keine andere Branche hat die Wirtschaft, das Land und die Menschen so geprägt wie Kohle und Stahl; die Steinkohle war Motor des wirtschaftlichen Aufschwungs und gab Generationen von Menschen im Saarland Arbeit, Einkommen und Wohlstand.

The coal mine in the region of Saarland will close on June 30, 2012, thus marking the end of an important 250 year-long industrial era.

No industry has had a greater influence on the region, its economy, and its people than coal and steel.

Coal was the engine of the economic boom and provided a generation of people in Saarland with work, income, and prosperity.
