Raising northern Sweden’s European profile

In its verdict, the jury cited Umeå’s ambition to make the city and northern Sweden more visible in Europe and to use culture as a driving force in regional development. The jury was unanimous in recommending Umeå as European Capital of Culture 2014. Umeå was a truly great cultural city even before selection as capital of culture. Thus, 2014 will be used to step up the pace and become even sharper.

A programme of co-creation

“Co-creation” is the key word in Umeå2014’s capital of culture initiative. Here, the concept means that everyone can participate and contribute to the programme. To promote a long-term perspective and encourage the continuance of capital of culture activities beyond 2014, it is intended that projects should be run by the “cultural operators” themselves.

An Umeå2014 team will be receiving suggestions, coordinating activities and granting funds. However, it cannot manage projects. In other words, most of our capital of culture activities will be run by associations, organisations, cultural institutions and other interested parties.

We continue to create together after 2014

Current antenna system in /P trips. 2 x 13 m dipole with 10 m 450 ohm slotted feeder. Feeding point in 10 m on top of DX-wire heavy duty pole mounted on bicycle holder behing my car. TS-480 used with 100 W.

I got my license just before the Christmas 1981. Those days CW was still the must in order to get a hamradio license. I was doing my military service in signal regiment and learned CW "free of charge". Almost from early days the contesting has been important part of my hobby. Later on contest interest has turned more towards collecting QSOs and QSLs for diplomas and specially trophies and plagues. During the main contests I operate from Somero (OHC 100) and the during the weekdays from Riihimäki (OHC 335). The latest interest focus has been in PSK31 and RTTY so likely meet on the digital modes also.
Last few years also activations of OH IOTA's, LH's and OHFF's are high priority.
All contacts are confirmed via bureau and LoTW.
eQSL transfer from SwissLog has started. Unfortunately the lack of multi- QTH support of the eQSL system makes having totally correct data as far as locator goes too complicated if not impossible. The correct QTH data is always to be found on last line of QSL - there will be stated for example IOTA, OHFF, loc. and so on according to the moment of QSO in question..
Direct QSL OK when SASE and covering stamp cost ( 1 EUR, 2 USD or 1 IRC) follows - if not QSL will come via bureau

My other interest is my Harley Davidson MT350. (Gone but not forgotten, hopefully to be replaced soon)

The picture below is a 1/4 vertical for 20m. It has 4 radials which are also 1/4 long. They are also doubling up as guy ropes. This was used for a WSPR demonstration at the Grantham amateur radio club on the 04-06-13.

In December 2013 I was very lucky to win 1st prize in the www.hamradiodeals.co.uk christmas raffle. This enabled me to buy a bit of test equipment which will help me to learn a bit more about electronics and radio. You can see my test equipment to the right of the picture. Its not exactly modern equipment but it has opened up another avenue in the hobby for me.
