QRV since Nov 2007. Not a dxpedition - I work pro bono while in Uganda. On the air from the University of the Mountains of the Moon (MMU) in Fort Portal, Western Uganda and (occasionally) the capital, Kampala. Fort Portal is in the foothills of the beautiful Rwenzori Mountains which form the border with the Congo (about 25 kms away). It is a fertile area with a fine climate - a major local cash crop is tea. MMU is an independent (non-profit) university owned by the community of the area. Next visit is September 2013 for 8 weeks.
Main ham radio challenges are frequent thunderstorms and static which make low bands hard work. Also erratic power - which frequently goes off without any warning and may stay off for many hours. It can provide as little as 160 volts (instead of 240). Internet connectivity has improved greatly in the past 5 years. I prefer CW but am also QRV on SSB and digimodes. My usual rig is a K3 with a variety of antennas - (sometimes) a single band 2 el Moxon beam, (always) an inverted v dipole with links for all bands and (possibly) an all band Hexbeam in 2013. I use LOTW.
All QSL routes are OK except e-QSL. I prefer use of OQRS via Clublog. I send cards only when I am in UK so you may have to await my return if in Uganda. Please do NOT ask for another bureau card via ClubLog if you have already sent one via the bureau - cards are expensive and I have to pay for them! Thanks.

Direct QSLs please via home call G3RWF. Please enclose an IRC or $2 (sorry but $1 no longer covers the cost of a stamp anywhere). Also bureau OK but will take a while (and please put as many QSOs as possible on one card to reduce weight and make replying easier). I only reply to QSOs for each new band.
Please do not e mail me to ask me to check my log.I usually upload toLOTW and Clublog daily.I would rather be on the air than hunting through my log when I am in Uganda! Thanks.

I actively support the DX Code (http://www.dx-code.org/link.htm)

If you are missing any of my cards please send me an email with contact information and I will send to you. I appreciate all contacts on these nets, please use the appropriate net bureaus.
I operate primarily HF mobile, including 20,40,75/80 and 160 and will check in SSB, CW and RTTY/PSK31. I enjoy operating HF mobile; I've been mobile in 26 different state capitals and 6 other states; as well as from Ontario, New Brunswick, Quebec, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
My mobile radio equipment includes operating with a Yaesu FT890, FT847 or FT100d through an Ameritron ALS500m amp 500 watts into the Texas Bug Catcher or Hustler Super Coils for mobile HF 20/40/80/160m SSB,CW, RTTY/PSK. Mobile Digital Interfaces are West Mountain Plug N Play or the Signalink USB.
My fixed station include Kenwood TS590s, Yaesu FT102 with FV102DM, FT847, FT890, LDG1000AT tuner with an Ameritron AL-811H and Ameritron ALS500R Amp. Fixed antennas are Cushcraft 10-40m Rotatable Dipole on a 55 foot tower, 80m Loop cut to 3.547 mHz, 80m Loop at 3.902 mHz,160m Loop at 1.814 MHz, Interfaces are West Mountain Rigblaster Pro, Rigblaster Advantage, Rigblaster Plug N Play, Nomic, Signalink USB, AEA PK232, Kamtronics, and Nue-PSK Digital Modem.
I'll operate on most any band; SSB, CW or Digital; a little QRP and Satellite work. I enjoy DXing and have 200 confirmed countries on 20m CW; as well as a JA at 250mw QRP. First licensed in 1989; upgraded to Extra from Novice within a few months; made my first QSO as an Extra and operated entirely CW for several years until discovering the Triple H and 3905CCN in 1992 on sideband. I am an ARRL and W5YI VE; and have taught Novice, Technician and General Class License classes. I am also a member of the Cumberland County ARES and the Cumberland County EMA RACES liaison and training officer; member of the Portland Amateur Wireless Association and involved with public service events and annual Field Day. Enjoy attending Hamfest; been out to Dayton at least 4 times; and to Orlando, Virginia Beach, Deerfield, N.H. and local club swaps. I was first licenced in March 1973.  I came on the air with a Heathkit HW-101 Transceiver and a G5RV antenna.  The HW 101 was later replaced with a Yaesu FT-101B Transceiver, and a home made 3 Band 2 Element Cubical Quad completed the antenna farm.In 1977 other pursuits had to be given priority, and I became inactive.  I sold my station in the same year and I was QRT.  I never imagined at the time, it would be 27 years before I would be back on the air again.
In January 2004 I was able to return to the hobby.  My Station comprised of an Icom-746, and once again a G5RV antenna.  What a joy it was to be back on the air!  Later, a Carolina Windom 80, and a Carolina Windom 80 Special replaced the G5RV.
Having retired in October 2006 after a 44-year career in the Public Service, I now have more time to play radio.  There have also been a number of changes to the station since 2004 as well.
My current station comprises – a 5 Band Heavy Duty Spiderbeam at 10 meters above ground. (I still have my Carolina Windoms).  A Yaesu FT-950, and a Yaesu FT-450.
Since putting up the Spiderbeam, entries in my log have certainly increased from the many pile-ups I have been in.  My favourites bands are 17, 15, 12 and 10 meters.  I also get on 40 meters occasionally.

I do not chase DX.  I have no need to really.  I work whoever comes along.  I simply enjoy giving Hams a chance to put a ZD7 in their logs.  I respond to all requests for QSL Cards providing they are accompanied by 2 US Dollars (or Euro or Sterling notes) and an SAE.   PLEASE! do not send coins or stamps.  AND do not QSL via VE1AIH who was my QSL Manager.  (He is now a Silent Key anyway).  Getting a card back to you could take 3-8 weeks, this is beyond my control, as ZD7 land does not have an air service.  So please be patient.
If you want information about ZD7 Land you can visit the following websites:
