Aruba (
/əˈruːbə/ ə-roo-bə, Dutch pronunciation: [aˈruba]) is a 33-kilometer-long island (20 mi) of the Lesser Antilles in the southern Caribbean Sea, located 27 km (17 mi) north of the coast of Venezuela and approximately 130 km (81 mi) east ofGuajira Peninsula (Colombia). Together with Bonaire andCuraçao, it forms a group referred to as the ABC islands of theLeeward Antilles, the southern island chain of the Lesser Antilles. Aruba and all the Dutch islands in the Antilles together, are commonly referred to as the Netherlands Antilles (or the Dutch Antilles).

Aruba is one of the four constituent countries that form theKingdom of the Netherlands, together with the Netherlands,Curaçao, and Sint Maarten whose citizens share a single nationality: Dutch citizen. Aruba has no administrative subdivisions, but for census purposes is divided into eight regions. Its capital is Oranjestad.
Unlike much of the Caribbean region, Aruba has a dry climate and an arid, cactus-strewn landscape. This climate has helped tourism as visitors to the island can reliably expect warm, sunny weather. It has a land area of 179 square kilometres (69.1 sq mi) and is densely populated with a total of 101,484 inhabitants at the 2010 Census. It lies outside the hurricane belt.
アルバ（オランダ語：Aruba）は、西インド諸島の南端部、南米ベネズエラの北西沖に浮かぶ島。高度な自治が認められたオランダ王国の構成国。本土オランダ、キュラソー、シント・マールテンと共に対等な立場でオランダ王国を構成している。
アルバの最初の住民は、アラワク部族のカケティオス・インディアンである。彼らは、カリブ族による攻撃から逃れて、ベネズエラからこの地に移住した。最古のインディアン住居跡は、西暦1000年頃までさかのぼる。他の西インド諸島とも距離もあり、海の高い波はカヌーでの航海を困難にしたため、カケティオスたちはカリブ海よりも南米に多く見られた。
スペイン人探検家のアロンソ・デ・オヘダ (Alonso de Ojeda) は、1499年頃、最初のヨーロッパ人として同地に到着したと考えられているが、開拓地は建設されなかった。多くのほかの西インド諸島と異なり、プランテーションはアルバでは発達しなかった。その代わりにスペイン人は、多くのカケティオスをイスパニョーラ島へ送り、そこで奴隷として掘削の仕事を強制した。
1636年、アルバはオランダに承認され、2世紀近くオランダの植民地支配下にあった。1805年以降のナポレオン・ボナパルトによる戦争の間、イギリスが主に島の植民地支配をしたが、1816年に再びオランダの植民地支配に戻された。
19世紀のゴールドラッシュで繁栄した。最初の原油積み替え施設が1924年に、1928年には製油所が開設された。これはアメリカ合衆国のスタンダード・オイル・オブ・ニュージャージー（現在のエクソンモービル）の100%出資の子会社、ラゴ・オイル&トランスポート株式会社 (Lago Oil & Transport Co. Ltd.) である。
