Celebrating 80 years of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™
For 80 years, the
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ has been the heartbeat of the Southwest, beating powerfully with more than 24,000 volunteers who annually contribute their time, resources, and talent as part of the world's largest livestock exhibition, world's richest regular-season rodeo, and the Southwest's premier entertainment event.
Since its beginning in 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has committed approximately $283 million to scholarships, research, endowments, calf scramble participants, junior show exhibitors, School Art participants, and other educational and youth programs. Of that total, the Show has committed more than $165 million in direct educational program support, since the first scholarship was awarded in 1957.
Because college is only a dream for so many students, the Show has made an extraordinary impact on the lives of countless young men and women in its quest to benefit the youth of Texas and support them through education. Currently, more than 2,000 students are on Show scholarships, attending more than 100 different Texas colleges and universities. The value of these scholarships is approximately $30 million.
All recipients of
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo scholarships must demonstrate academic potential, citizenship/leadership and financial need, and they must attend a Texas college or university.
I wnat to thank everyone who contacted K5R and sent their SASE and QSL card to me. I had a wonderful time operating even if the trerestrial and solar weather didn't cooperate as much as I'd hoped for. I'll be sending out QSL cards next week so keep your eye on the mail box.
