Hello from the "Footprint to Freedom"!
I am the Radio Electronics Officer (REO) for the USNS Sgt William R Button, which is a pre-positioning ship stationed at Diego Garcia, or "DGar" as we sometimes call it.
My current tour will keep me QRV as VQ9JC from December 2008 to April 2009; after that, I expect to return to DGar in August 2009 for another four-month tour.
About 85% of my operating is on CW, with SSB at about 12% and the rest on digital modes. When you call on CW, pse give your call only one time; if I miss part of your call, I will ask for a repeat. Too many stations give their calls two and three times which only adds to the QRM.
I am QRV on the LEO satellites (AO-51, SO-50, and AO-27), but the footprints of these satellites are small enough that I cannot reach the African or Asian mainland from VQ9 very well.
My special prefix operations have included VQ97JC (23 May through 05 June 2007) and VQ98JC (18-31 December 2008). I'm hoping to operate as VQ99JC in for two or three weeks in August or September 2009.
Buro or direct is fine for all callsigns.
Pse note that all mail (direct and buro) goes to my home QTH in Florida, and it is later forwarded to me through the U.S. Navy FPO mail system. The FPO system works very well, but there will be delays in getting the mail to me, so pse be patient.
Direct mail requests will be answered the same way if sufficient reply postage is included. QSLs sent by direct mail with no postage or with invalid or expired IRCs will be answered only via the buro. Pse remember that the postage rate in the US is going up again in May 2009.
If you have a question about a QSL that you think should have been received, send me an e-mail. All of my logs are electronic, and I can review them at any time.
73, Jim, VQ9JC / KG4JC / ND9M

Hello !
Amateur radio since 1960, I'm again in operation in Magog, Qué., since september 2005. MAGOG is a village about 25,000 peoples on the side of the lake Memphrémagog. Most of tourism and paradise for skiing on Mount Orford.
I'm glad to QSL via bureau or direct if you asked for. QRZ very evening on 30M 40M & 20M CW for DX and again be on all bands. All the operations VE2ACP-Portable are Zone 2. QSL for operation on Oct.13 2007.via bureau or direct. All cards received from that expedition are sent out by today.
Working now to get my 5B-DXCC, to improve marks on 80 meters SSB & CW listen at night 3505 on sunset and 0300Z-0400Z Special QSL sended for operation on 2 different bands.
I'm looking on 6M any openings.every day. Just those want FN35. I Shortly have a 5el yagi at 55ft high. In Florida I will tryed to increase my DX quote if propagation is there. My grid square in Florida is: EL96
I operate now from south part of Florida, in Davie area. During the followings days, I mount my R-7000 Vertical in the back yard, and be able to operate on HF then.  This year, I operate with a 3 el  15M , I will tryed to operate on 50 MHZ with  double bazooka. Now I'm on VHF& UHF with a Comet vertical antenna. Now I'm ready to mount side of the house. The base would be above the roof.
Some times, operate on CQnet, I talked with good persons all over the world, on 80M with Australia. sometimes surprising.Iran amateur radio operators on 20M vy good persons you sure they are true amateur radio operator.

Best of 73 to all and have good DX.
Gerald VE2ACP

My equipment: Rig: FT-920
Antenna: Force 12 C-4E,

I QSL 100%. 2 Green Stamps (or Euro notes/ Sterling BUT NOT Euro coins) and a self addressed envelope will be greatly appreciated to defray mailing costs.
PLEASE DO NOT put St. Helena stamps or stamps from the country in which you are mailing on your SAE.

NO eQSL or LoTW.

For fantastic Custom QSL cards have a look at www.printed.it As used by ZD7VC and many other ZD7 Stations as well as DX stations (and noteably Big Dx-peditions) right around the world. If YOU want fantastic looking QSL cards that other Ham Operators would love to have gracing their shacks then you'll need to contact Alfio - IT9EJW and send him the pictures that you want on your card and let him design you a FANTASTIC QSL CARD - Guaranteed you won't be disappointed!!!!
Don't just take my word for it though - see what the reviews on www.eham.net have to say!! Look for IT9EJW QSL's.
If you've also been the recipient of Alfio's beautiful artwork perhaps you too might like to post a review onwww.eham.net - thanks.
Islands on the Air (IOTA) - could all stations who live on Islands please consider putting your IOTA reference number on your QSL cards.
To those of us who wish to collect IOTA numbers for awards or otherwise it'sfrustrating to find that this tiny bit of very important information is missing from the QSL card.
On the 16 January 2011 I worked KA5N who said that he'd never worked St. Helena Island (ZD7) in all of his 56 years of hamming. On the 3rd June 2012 I had the good fortune of having a 10 meter contact with I6TJD - Francesco who it turned out was 83 years old and had been hamming for 65 years and this was his first contact with St. Helena Island (ZD7).
I would be very interested to hear from Ham Operators who either have Solar installations to run their shack equipment or live off the grid or who work in the solar industry. I am in the process of accumulating equipment for an off grid solar installation. This Island is very remote and knowldge of the correct pieces of equipment needed is non existent except for what I can glean from the internet. I already have four 250w HIT Sanyo Solar panels with MC3 connectors. I need advice on the correct MPPT charge controller possibly one that won't cause RFI (if they do?).
Description:
Vmpp: 34.9V
Voc: 43.1V
impp 7.18A
I live on the Northern side of the Island on a sloping rock platau 3/4 of a mile inland and 1,011' ASL and have the sunniest location of the Island. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated no matter how big or small.

Thank you
