UPDATE 11/5/2013 - QSOs completed with JA, VU, VK etc. I am using Digipan, so you can transmit up to 1KHz high of my frequency and I can do a 'split' QSO.
UPDATE MAY 11TH 2013 - I am now in Kawthaung, Myanmar. Please look for my signal on 20mb PSK-31. You can check QSOs and request QSLs from my online log at http://www.myradioclub.org/xz1k/
11/5/2013 - LOTW is not yet available. I submitted documents to the ARRL for DXCC approval and LOTW account on 30/4/13, (by courier service from Yangon), but although the package is shown as delivered to the ARRL I have had no feedback. If/when I am allocated an LOTW account, I will upload to LOTW for requested QSLs.
UPDATE MAY 1ST 2013 - During the months of May and June 2013, I MAY operate XZ1K from Tanintharyi State. I will only operate on PSK-31, according to when I have free time. From 1st July, I will be working in Laos, but I will try to return each holiday to re-activate XZ1K
QSL INFORMATION - QSLs will only be available via online verification. There is of course, no bureau in Myanmar and I will have no permanent address there. I will mail out a hard-copy QSL for each QSO verification. SWLs may also submit their reception reports.

In May 2012, after working as a teaching volunteer at a local orphanage in Tanintharyi State, south Myanmar, I applied to the military commander of that state and was granted the amateur radio call-sign of XZ1K, for use within that region.
I subsequently operated for a short while on 10m SSB during May 2012, and achieved QSOs with many Asian stations.
In April 2012, I left Tanintharyi State for a new teaching position in Yangon, and so I was no longer able to operate XZ1K.

Here are some photos taken at that time where I presented items to the orphanage kids that have been purchased with funds donated by several radio amateurs

Historical information:
Progress is a Russian (formerly Soviet) research station in Antarctica. It is located at the Larsemann Hills antarctic oasis on the shore of Prydz Bay.

The station was established by the 33rd Soviet Antarctic Expedition on April 1, 1988 and was moved to another place on February 26, 1989 In 2000, work was temporarily halted but it reopened in 2003.

A landing field is located close to the station for air connection with other stations. From 1998-2001 works were performed to transfer transportation operations to Progress from the Mirny Station and make it the main support base for Vostok station.
RI1ANP Online log- updated several times in a month, after receiving information from Antarctica. LoTW update similarly.

Malawi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Malawi (/məˈlɑːwi/Chichewa [malaβi][need tone]), officially the Republic of Malawi, is alandlocked country in southeast Africa that was formerly known as Nyasaland. It is bordered byZambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast, and Mozambique on the east, south and west. The country is separated from Tanzania and Mozambique by Lake Malawi. Malawi is over 118,000 km2 (45,560 sq mi) with an estimated population of more than 14,900,000. Its capital is Lilongwe, which is also Malawi's largest city; the second largest is Blantyre and the third is Mzuzu. The name Malawi comes from the Maravi, an old name of the Nyanja people that inhabit the area. The country is also nicknamed "The Warm Heart of Africa".[9]
The area of Africa now known as Malawi was colonised by migrating tribes of Bantu around the 10th century. In 1891 the area was colonised again, this time by the British. In 1953 Malawi, then known as Nyasaland, became part of the semi-independent central African Federation(CAF). The Federation was dissolved in 1963 and in 1964, Nyasaland gained full independence and was renamed Malawi. Upon gaining independence it became a single-party state under the presidency of Hastings Banda, who remained president until 1994, when he was ousted from power. Joyce Banda (no relation) is the current president, raised to that position after president Bingu wa Mutharika died in 2012. She is the first female leader in Malawi.[10] Malawi has a democratic, multi-party government. Malawi has a small military forcethat includes an army, a navy and an air wing. Malawi's foreign policy is pro-Western and includes positive diplomatic relations with most countries and participation in severalinternational organisations.
Malawi is among the world's least-developed countries. The economy is heavily based in agriculture, with a largely rural population. The Malawian government depends heavily on outside aid to meet development needs, although this need (and the aid offered) has decreased since 2000. The Malawian government faces challenges in building and expanding the economy, improving education, health care, environmental protection, and becoming financially independent. Malawi has several programs developed since 2005 that focus on these issues, and the country's outlook appears to be improving, with improvements in economic growth, education and healthcare seen in 2007 and 2008.
Malawi has a low life expectancy and high infant mortality. There is a high prevalence ofHIV/AIDS, which is a drain on the labour force and government expenditures. There is a diverse population of native peoplesAsians and Europeans, with several languages spoken and an array of religious beliefs. Although there was tribal conflict in the past, by 2008 it had diminished considerably and the concept of a Malawian nationality had begun to form. Malawi has a culture combining native and colonial aspects, including sports, art, dance and music.
